The American Civil War Research Database

April 3, 2008 by tellinghistory

The American Civil War Research Database describes itself as “the largest, most in-depth and fully searchable database of American Civil War soldiers and events.” The tool includes Dyers Compendium, War of the Rebellion Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies and The Roster of Union and Confederate Soldiers, among scores of others.

The American Civil War Research Database contains more than 4.2 million Civil War soldiers records, in addition to multiple thousands of photographs, battle synopses, regimental rosters and chronicles. In excess of 90,000 hours and 13 years in development, the database is updated bimonthly and according to administrators is merely half finished. One can search the database by any of the following: Union/Confederacy, last name, first name, state served, residence, state of residence, occupation and whether the soldier in question survived the war. Therefore, one could ascertain information about a relative who participated in the Civil War with minimal and/or fragmented information.

The annual fee to access this excellent tool is just $25.00.
